WHAT: NAR Ethics Update

WHEN: Thursday | November 10, 2016 | 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

WHERE: Douglas Elbert District | 840 Kinner St, Castle Rock, CO 80109

WHY: During this class, you will learn the process and fundamentals of how an Ethics Hearing and Arbitration Hearing operates. Emphasis is placed on covering the Ombudsman Process, Filing the Complaint, the Mediation Benefits, how the Hearing Panel/process works, and, ultimately why agents may or may not get paid. This is a fast paced learning experience with real case studies and discussions surrounding the REALTOR® Professional Standards Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Arbitration.

NOTE: The National Association of REALTORS® requires all members to take an Ethics Update course every four years. Failure to complete the required periodic ethics training shall be considered a violation of a membership duty and will result in suspension of membership for the first two months (January and February) of the year following the end of any four year cycle or until the requirement is met, whichever occurs sooner. On March 1 of that year, the membership of a member who is still suspended as of that date will be automatically terminated. The current cycle runs from January 1, 2013 - December 31, 2016.

Upon completion of the class, participants will be able to:

  • Identify key aspirational concepts found in the Preamble to the National Association of REALTORS® Code of Ethics.
  • Describe “general business” ethics, and compare the REALTORS®’ Code of Ethics with business ethics.
  • Identify possible violations of the Code of Ethics, specifically related to the Articles cited above.
  • Describe the professional standards process for enforcing the Code of Ethics, including the duty to arbitrate.
  • Identify critical elements of due process as they relate to Code enforcement.
