RECAP: YPN's A Haunted History of Denver's Past

On Wednesday, October 21st DMAR's YPN (Young Professional Network) got into the Halloween Spirit with a guided tour of haunted places in Denver.

During the walking tour, the group was guided through Denver's lower downtown (LoDo) by a costumed guide.  They experienced a haunting mixture of ghostly sights and pub crawling as they explored haunted bars and buildings, listened to creepy stories about the city's former red light district, and sipped on "spirits" at the establishments visited.

All of the participants raved about the event and enjoyed learning more about local history in a fun, festive and spooky way.

"It was awesome!" stated Piper Bruner, Chair of the DMAR YPN.  "Honestly probably the best walking tour to date. The weather was a little dreary, but we learned so much about Denver's vast history."

Following the haunted tours - and once everyone was in the seasonal spirit - the group was able to partake in "spirits" at the establishments visited.

Spooky Highlights

  • The Blake Street Vault has a ghost who is often called the brown ghost or lady in red.  Recently she was nicknamed Lydia by investigative ghost researchers.  When the Vault is quiet and rather empty, people have heard her walking across the old wooden saloon floors in high heels... some have even caught a glimpse of her while walking down the stairs to the basement level.
  • Occasionally at The Cruise Room, the ghost of a 1930s postal worker can be seen drinking at the bar.  And he always leaves a full beer for the bartender to collect.
  • Union Station is certainly an iconic landmark of Denver and after receiving a total renovation, it's undoubtedly become one of the most beautiful train stations in the country... but the renovations also revealed the station's hidden past, which contains unsolved murders, untimely deaths and even a persistent "three-fingered hobo."
