WHY: Real estate attorney Jordan May will be presenting his 2019 Colorado Real Estate Commission (CREC) Report, which reviews the state of the real estate industry, common violations and causes for concern throughout the state. He’ll also be discussing hot button regulatory and broker disciplinary issues that all members of the brokerage community need to be aware of. Following Jordan’s presentation, we will hear from Derek Camunez, Chair of DMAR’s Professional Standards Committee and Managing Broker/Owner of RE/MAX Avenues, who will review the top-cited violations for ethics complaints as well as key professional standards changes. This will be a great chance to ask questions and get yourself up to speed with Commission policy and regulation (so come ready to take notes).

About the Speakers

Jordan May is a practicing real estate attorney and shareholder at Frascona, Joiner, Goodman and Greenstein P.C. Jordan is a trial lawyer trying complex civil and real estate cases to judges, juries and tribunals across the state of Colorado. Jordan has argued cases to state and federal trial courts, Colorado courts of appeal, as well as the Office of the Administrative Courts. Serving as an associate municipal judge for the City of Englewood from 2009 to 2013 provided Jordan with a unique “from the bench” perspective on litigation. As a former licensed Colorado real estate broker engaging in residential and commercial buy-sell transactions as well as property management, Jordan developed a practitioner’s transactional perspective on the real estate industry. Jordan regularly speaks to real estate professionals and trade groups regarding regulatory issues, risk management, negotiation strategy, contract issues, as well as state professional license discipline among other topics. Jordan has also served as an expert witness on brokerage law issues in lawsuits involving claims against licensed real estate brokers.

Derek Camunez currently serves as DMAR’s Professional Standard’s Chair and has been a REALTOR® for over 30 years. As past President of the Denver Board of REALTORS® and former CAR Director, as well as Managing Broker/Owner of his brokerage, RE/MAX Avenues, Derek is a champion of REALTOR®-ism and the promotion of professionalism among his peers. Derek also serves as the President of The Lowry Business Alliance, Director of the Lowry Redevelopment Authority and incoming President of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals.
