Meet the Candidates

Derek Camunez

Throughout my years of Realtor® service, I have witnessed the effects of the marketplace and the challenges we consistently face. In our current environment with ongoing litigation, I am concerned that our values are being slowly eroded and chipped away. As a Broker Owner as well as a leadership proponent, I feel that my experience and ability to look ahead would serve the Board well, and allow for a perspective grounded in experience, but also in my drive and belief in the importance of a strong leadership community. My past role as President of the Denver Board of Realtors® before the DMAR merger, as well as leadership positions at the Colorado Association of Realtors®, have shown me the importance of ongoing involvement as well as the duly planned execution and implementation of forward-thinking advocacy.

As the Employing Broker of Nookhaven Homes, I built a brokerage from the ground up and established it as values-driven and committed to high-touch service and agent development. Prior to launching Nookhaven in March 2025, I built a successful sales career at West + Main Homes (2019-2024) and Usaj Realty (2024-2025), consistently delivering top-tier service with a strong emphasis on client relationships, mentorship and education. I also designed and led West + Main Homes' mentor program, developed training curricula and supported new agents through their first transactions, strengthening the next generation of Realtors®.

I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to DMAR as a member of the Board of Directors. With nearly 10 years of experience in real estate, I have a deep understanding of the industry, particularly within the Denver market. My professional background, combined with my dedication to enhancing the real estate community, equips me to make meaningful contributions to the board's strategic direction. In my previous role on the Government Affairs Committee, I was able to stay informed on important industry developments by attending meetings and listening to insightful guest speakers. Although my participation was more passive, it provided me with valuable exposure to the policy landscape affecting our profession and reinforced my desire to get more involved in shaping the future of our industry. I am eager to apply this knowledge more actively in a leadership capacity.

Over the past eight years, I have been deeply involved in Realtor® leadership at both the local and state levels, which has prepared me to contribute meaningfully as a DMAR Director. My journey began through the Young Professionals Network (YPN), where I served in leadership roles with both the South Metro Denver Realtor® Association (SMDRA) and DMAR. I had the honor of chairing YPN at each Association, helping to grow member engagement, foster community connections, and advance the mission of supporting the next generation of real estate leaders. Through my professional career, I've built my business on collaboration, education, and community connection - values that align closely with DMAR's vision. Serving as a DMAR Director is the natural next step in my leadership journey, and I am eager to contribute my experience, energy and dedication to furthering DMAR's impact for both members and the communities we serve.

I love all things real estate! I have been in training, leadership and development for over 20 years, I run multiple businesses all in the real estate arena and was named rookie of the year for Keller Williams my first year in Real Estate. I was the Team Leader of a 187-agent brokerage a year and a half into my real estate career because the skills I've learned through my experience are transferable. I am a top-producing agent, so I have my pulse on relevant and up-to-date information in our industry. I am a team leader and mentor for our brokerage, and I also have a training program . I am active and passionate about community and serve as an ambassador for Urban Peak (at-risk youth housing center) and am active in running donations for Clarvida (center for foster children).
