Lumber Prices on Steep Incline Again
High lumber prices are returning, and homebuyers should brace themselves for impact. The prices can have an effect on the cost of a new home as well as on decks and remodels. Lumber prices had been falling this summer, but that appears to have been short-lived. In August, lumber prices had bottomed out, but framing lumber is now up by 40% since then. Read More

Home Sales Jump as Buyers Aim to Beat Rising Rates
Existing-home sales rebounded in September as buyers may have felt a sense of pressure as mortgage rates started to inch up. Existing-home sales rose by 7% in September compared to August. Pending home sales down again in September
“Contract transactions slowed a bit in September and are showing signs of a calmer home price trend, as the market is running comfortably ahead of pre-pandemic activity,” Lawrence Yun, NAR’s chief economist, said in a statement. “It’s worth noting that there will be less inventory until the end of the year compared to the summer months, which happens nearly every year.” Read More

Here’s why one developer says he quit building multifamily affordable apartments in favor of million-dollar houses

Building affordable housing is too risky, too slow and too mired in bureaucracy, he said. Read More

New Home Sales Soared in September—Median Sales Price of New Houses Hits Record High
Sales of new homes in the U.S. rose in September, even though home prices rose to a new high. U.S. new-home sales increased 14% to an annual rate of 800,000, the government said Tuesday. That figure represents the number of homes that would be sold over a yearlong period of time if the same number of properties were bought each month based on the rate of sales in September. Compared to a year ago, sales were down 17.6%. Read More
