Understanding How Zoning Shapes Colorado Communities
Zoning is one of the most important tools communities use to shape growth and development, and it directly impacts real estate.
DMAR’s Government Affairs and Education teams are partnering to bring Realtors® an opportunity to better understand zoning and the role it plays in creating more equitable and sustainable communities.
On October 21, DMAR will welcome Don Elliott, FAICP, Senior Consultant with Clarion Associates, for Achieving More Equitable and Sustainable Communities Through Zoning. Elliott has decades of experience in land use, zoning, planning and local government and has worked with more than 80 communities across the U.S. and Canada on planning and development regulations. He also previously served as a Project Director for the City and County of Denver’s Planning and Community Development Office.
Elliott is also the author of An Even Better Way to Zone, published by Island Press in 2025, which explores how communities can use zoning to support more affordable, equitable and sustainable communities.

What Every Realtor® Needs to Know About Insurance
Colorado’s property insurance market is changing rapidly, creating new challenges for homeowners, buyers, sellers and real estate professionals.
On October 23, DMAR’s Government Affairs team will bring together industry experts for a panel discussion focused on the evolving property insurance landscape. Attendees will hear directly from Jason Lapham, Deputy Commissioner for Property and Casualty Insurance at the Colorado Division of Insurance, and Kelly Campbell, Executive Director of the Colorado FAIR Plan, with additional speakers to be announced.
The panel will cover current insurance challenges, regulations, coverage options and what Realtor® need to know when insurance becomes part of a real estate transaction.

September 15 is National Voter Registration Day, a reminder to make sure you’re registered and ready to participate in upcoming elections.
As Realtors®, we know the importance of staying engaged in the communities we serve. Whether you’ve recently moved, changed your address or simply want to confirm that your information is current, September is a good time to check your voter registration.
